Bali is part of a chain of islands in the Java Sea in Indonesia, and is the very definition of an island paradise, with gorgeous beaches at the feet of rocky cliffs and ancient temples to be found further inland.

For a relatively small island, Bali has an incredibly varied nature, with stunning volcanoes, lush greenery, and white sandy beaches all brushing shoulders, and coming together to give a real out of this world feeling.

People travel to Bali for all manner of reasons, whether it be a family vacation at one of the luxury resorts, surfing or even yoga trips.

It also has a bit of a reputation of partying, and is popular with Western backpackers, but can offer a much more relaxing and even spiritual trip if you so wish.

Bali is also renowned for its incredibly friendly locals, and you’ll always be greeted with a smile and made to feel welcome.

Flying to Bali from the USA

Here’s everything you’ll need to know when flying from the US to Bali, including flight times and entry requirements.

Flight Times

Unfortunately, Bali is one of the furthest places to fly to from the USA, although it is totally worth it!

Flights to Denpasar can take anywhere between 22 and 27 hours depending upon where you’re traveling from, which airline you’re flying with, and how many stopovers you have (and how long they are!).

Entry Requirements

There are three ways for US citizens to enter Indonesia for tourism purposes:
• Visa Exemption: A stamp which you receive in your passport free of charge upon arrival at the airport, and is valid for no longer than 30 days.
• Visa-on-Arrival: If visiting family or traveling for purposes other than tourism, you can request a Visa-on-Arrival, which will cost $35 and last up to 30 days, although it can be extended.
• Visa in advance: If you’re planning to stay for an extended period of time, you should look into obtaining a full visa before your journey.

Airlines That Fly to Bali

While there are no airlines which fly direct to Bali from the US, there are a number of ones offering connecting flights, including:
- Qatar Airways
- American Airlines
- Singapore Airlines
- Garuda Indonesia
- Philippine Airlines

However, be sure to get in touch with our travel experts here at Globehunters who will help you identify the best route for you, in terms of both flight duration and value.

The Airport

Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS)

There is only one airport in Bali, and it is located on the southern tip of the island. A lot of the hotels in Bali will offer free transfers from the airport, so check this when booking.

If your transfer isn’t included, taxis are available from the airport at a fixed rate and are fairly cheap.

If you’re feeling adventurous, why not opt for a motorbike taxi or shared van? Of course, you could always choose to hire a car and explore Bali at your own pace.

10 Bali Must Dos

If you’re visiting Bali for the first time, here are the ten things which you should try and fit into your visit if you can!

- Tanah Lot
- Seminyak
- Uluwatu Temple
- Sanur
- Ubud Monkey Forest
- Mount Batur
- Legian
- Bali Safari and Marine Park
- Goa Gajah
- Gunung Kawi

However, the best way to experience Bali is to get out there and explore it for yourself!
